Getting colourful at Age UK Portsmouth

Volunteers have been turning out in their droves to support Age UK Portsmouth and give the Bradbury Centre in Fratton a much need decorative freshen up. Portsmouth University Students’ Union, HMS Collingwood, Asda Fratton and Groundwork Solent, a regeneration charity based in Gosport, have all supported the project which will paint the interior of the Bradbury Centre on Kingston Road adding a much needed splash of colour along with a bit of fun and sparkle.
The project is just one of many Dulux Lets Colour Community projects currently being delivered in the UK which aim to brighten what may otherwise be considered as dull community spaces. The Students’ Union at Portsmouth University successfully bid to this national project and have received a generous paint donation from Dulux. Groundwork Solent have been working with the Students’ Union to recruit volunteers to undertake the work.
The response from local people and groups has been amazing. Large numbers of students have supported the project along with a group of Navy Divers from HMS Collingwood.

Perry Taylor, Vice President Welfare and Community at Portsmouth University Students’ Union said, “We’re really pleased and amazed at the contribution our students have had in transforming the Bradbury Centre. Over the past few years we have had students regularly volunteering at Age UK Portsmouth, and it’s great that we have now been able to help them even further by brightening up their building! We had 70 students volunteering throughout the project, which displays the positive impact students have in the wider community. We are also particularly grateful to Asda in Fratton for not only sending volunteers to paint but also for providing some vital material such as paint brushes and refreshments to keep all the volunteers going”.
