Presenter biographies:

 

Speaker: Bill Clark, Solent Low Carbon Economy Development Manager

Bill Clark retired from Southampton City Council in March 2012 and is now Solent Low Carbon Economy Development Manager,-a  joint initiative of PUSH and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.

A qualified Landscape Architect with over 30 years experience of working with Local Authorities in the Solent area,on environmental, regeneration,sustainability and low carbon initiatives including helping set up the PUSH sustainability group/panel in 2006 to take forward  sustainability issues  sub regionally.

Bill also worked closely with the business sector, specifically the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, on the development of Southampton (and latterly the Solent area) as a Low Carbon City and sub region, including the promotion of low carbon district energy schemes. Bill is well know for his work in this field both Nationally and in Europe where he has participated in a number of projects advocating sustainable urban environments and district energy solutions.

He received the Combined Heat and Power Associations Champion Award 2011/12

In collaboration with the University of Southampton Bill has contributed to the development of a programme of undergraduate, post graduate and PhD research projects, including the recently completed Carbon Footprint assessment model, which uses the Southampton area as an urban test study, and which is being exploited commercially.


Speaker: Jack Elton-Walters, Rapanui Clothing

Jack graduated in 2011 from the University of Reading with a 2:1 in Geography, then returned home to the Isle of Wight, an area of high youth unemployment. Managed to secure a job within Rapanui, heading up the custom side of things selling clothing to a wide range of brands, businesses and events.

Rapanui Clothing Eco fashion brand is based on the Isle of Wight, specialising in sustainable and ethical low carbon clothing. It has pioneered award winning traceability of clothing, allowing customers the see the garments’ journeys from seed to shop. Further to this, the company is working with the European Parliament to spearhead an eco-label system for clothing.


Speaker: Andrew Lee, Director of Strategy and Partnerships, South Downs National Park Authority 

Andrew Lee is Director of Strategy and Partnerships at the South Downs National Park Authority. After studying Environmental Biology at the University College of Wales Aberystwyth, Andrew started work at the Sussex Wildlife Trust, becoming Director after five years. He then moved to the World Wildlife Fund where he worked on UK Policy and Campaigning before becoming Chief Executive of the Sustainable Development Commission.

Andrew has a strong interest in landscape scale biodiversity and sustainable development and is a trustee of charity Global Action Plan (GAP) which works with business and communities to reduce carbon emissions and encourage more sustainable behaviour.


Speaker: Richard Ousey, Grant Thornton, UK LLP

Richard Ousey is an Associate Director with Grant Thornton UK LLP and works within their Energy Environment and Sustainability team. The team provides access to a wide range of services across advisory, tax and assurance to support dynamic organisations looking to build a sustainable and viable future. Our core capabilities encompass Renewable Energy, Waste, Energy efficiency and Sustainability.

Richard has extensive project experience working for public, private and banking clients and encompassing Solar PV, District Energy, Green Deal and Offshore Wind.


Speaker: Andy Stanford-Clark, Chief Technologist, IBM

Professor Andy Stanford-Clark is the Chief Technologist for IBM's consulting business in Energy and Utilities for the UK and Ireland.

He is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, and "Master Inventor" with more than 40 patents. Andy is based at IBM's Hursley Park laboratories in the UK, and specialises in remote telemetry, energy monitoring and management, Smart Metering and Smart Grid technologies. He has a particular interest in home energy monitoring, home automation, demand-side management, and driving consumer behaviour change.

Andy has a BSc in Computing and Mathematics, and a PhD in Computer Science. He is a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.


Speaker: Glenn Waters, Facilities Manager, Southern Co-operatives Ltd.

Glenn began his professional life as an apprentice technician with CEGB.  After work in the power industry, he joined Pirelli cables as an Electrical project manager, ending up as National Service Manager for 9 UK sites.

Subsequently he joined the Southern Cooperative - overseeing their estate, as Facilities Manager. 

Glenn has attended many environmental and energy groups and has presented on Energy at the UK Coorerative Congress. 

His common key focus areas are energy usage, identification and monitoring; cost control and carbon reduction; and Environmental Trading Impact 14001.


Speaker: Gary Wilburn, HPW Architecture

Gary is Director of HPW architecture, who focus on the Design and delivery of new build and refurbishment projects throughout the UK and mainland Europe, especially sustainable and renewable energy solutions for the commercial sectors, specialising in Retail and Leisure.

Gary is a regular speaker at conferences in UK and USA on Green architecture and Design with a number of specialisms including Sustainable Construction and Renewable Energy solutions.  Gary has been chair of the Sustainable Construction Network, and has recently been appointed as a trustee of the AECB, the Sustainable Building Association – a national network a network of individuals and companies with a common aim of promoting sustainable building.
