The Honesty of Flowers: Costs and Benefits of Plant-Animal Signalling
Date: Wednesday 25 January 2012
Time: 6:00-7:00pm, followed by a drinks reception
Venue: Portland Building, Portland Street, Portsmouth PO1 3AH
Most plants and their pollinators experience an inherent conflict of interests. Plants are adapted to offer as little reward as possible to their pollinators, and pollinators to maximise the rate of gain of those rewards. Signalling about the availability of rewards is an important way plants can manipulate pollinator behaviour, and such signals, such as showy petals, range from completely honest to downright deceptive.
Admission is free, but places are limited so please make a reservation by contacting events@port.ac.uk or 023 9284 3757.
