Recruiting Students
University of Portsmouth students have the latest knowledge and skills in their chosen field and through participation in the University’s employability programme have gained excellent transferable skills and work experience. Our students can bring to your organisation fresh ideas, innovative thinking and access to cutting-edge research.
If you are looking to fill a temporary vacancy in your organisation, or if you have a specific issue or problem that can be tackled on a short-term or project basis, Purple Door Careers and Recruitment can offer a number of recruitment solutions such as:
Student projects
Having a student work on behalf of your organisation on a specific research or consultancy project, within a given timescale, can be mutually beneficial. It gives you an additional highly-educated resource at relatively little cost and without on going commitment. If you have such a project, Purple Door Careers and Recruitment can arrange for a suitably qualified student to carry it out.
Part time work
We have students who are actively looking for part time work, whether directly related to their course or not. Students are available in the evenings, weekends and at occasional times during weekdays. Student workers bring an extra level of motivation and enthusiasm to your organisation.
For vocational or course specific vacancies contact Purple Door Careers and Recruitment for a recruitment service including advertising and sourcing suitable students.
All other vacancies are advertised through the on-site Job Shop, run by the University of Portsmouth Students' Union. The vacancy will be posted on their website and listed on the weekly email bulletin sent to all student work-seekers.
Student volunteering
Volunteering and work experience is fast becoming the best way for companies to gain access to the vast pool of quality, dynamic and hard working students the University of Portsmouth has to offer.
Organised through Purple Door Careers and Recruitment volunteering and work experience is a mutually beneficial concept. The student gets to experience first hand a real working environment while you get an extra pair of hands to undertake a specific project or perhaps to offer a fresh perspective on your business needs.
Student volunteering can lead to the effective recruitment of a high calibre graduate for your business where the student is already fully integrated in the needs and demands of the business. It really is a win-win situation!
Vacation work
University of Portsmouth students are available for vacation work, whether as a professional summer internship or in the form of a casual worker.

Student placements
Student placements can be a useful way for you to drive a business project forward that because of day-to-day pressures might not otherwise be undertaken.
Many of our degrees have a period of employment built into the structure of the course and this is an integral part of a student's education. This period, called a placement, enables the student to gain valuable and relevant work experience and also benefits employers by offering them a chance to take on fresh, intelligent and enthusiastic young people. Placement students have a high level of skill and flexibility and can offer applied knowledge from their studies, resourcefulness and enthusiasm.
Placement opportunities in business, marketing, accounting, economics, HR and law are dealt with by The Portsmouth Business School Placements Office.
Placement opportunities in computing, engineering, creative technologies and mathematics are dealt with by The Faculty of Technology Placements Office.
