Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are Government funded programmes, where graduates embedded in an organisation work under the supervision of an academic to deliver a strategic or business growth project. Funding for the project comes from the Technology Strategy Board and the organisation that is engaging with the University.

The University of Portsmouth has an excellent track record winning KTP funding and delivering projects that realise company growth. The University has worked on diverse projects with SMEs such as Flight Data Services and JS Humidifiers through to multinational companies such as Xyratex Ltd and on public sector contracts with Portsmouth City Council. KTPs are an excellent way to link the development of your business solution with academic expertise in a live and real time project that develops over two to three years. The University devised and spearheaded the ‘Business +’ programme for projects lasting only 40 weeks and this is now realised in the form of Shorter KTP projects(sKTPs). sKTP funding is providing smaller businesses with the benefits of KTP over a shorter time scale.

The University has won awards for its KTPs. In 2010 it won the award for Best Partnership in the south-east of England and in 2004 the Royal academy of Engineering recognised the institution for its contribution to engineering excellence through KTPs.
