Accrediting your volunteering
ASDAN – Community Volunteering Qualification (CVQ)
If you are volunteering or are just about to start, you can gain an additional qualification to boost your CV. The University and Students’ Union have teamed up with an external provider called ASDAN to offer the Community Volunteering Qualification (CVQ).
The CVQ will offer you the opportunity to explore your own volunteering role, the organisation you work for and pick an additional unit, such as team work or project management. It is a portfolio of research and evidence, meaning you can complete lots of it “on the job”.
Graduate employers look for additional activity and supplementing your volunteering with this qualification will look impressive on your CV.
Feedback from students last year includes;
- 'I like that the accreditation can go on my CV and the effort has not gone unnoticed'
- 'Helped me to reflect on the skills I had gained volunteering and highlighted what I need to improve'
What if I want to get involved?
You will need to register your initial interest by emailing accreditation@port.ac.uk or attending one of our introductory workshops at the start of term.
You need to be able to work on your portfolio between October and Christmas. We know this will seem like a tight deadline, but feedback has showed that it is easier to complete before the second term when assessments become your focus.
Check out the ASDAN FAQs sheet, or read through the ASDAN 2012 Introduction session powerpoint presentation which will tell you more. Sign up at accreditation@port.ac.uk
