UKSC Blog - Essay Competition

The UKSC Blog (www.ukscblog.com), which covers developments in the UK Supreme Court, is launching an annual essay writing competition.  The blog is run jointly by editors from law firm Olswang LLP and Matrix Chambers.

First Prize: one week's work experience at city law firm Olswang LLP in March 2012 and publication of the winning essay on the UKSC Blog.

Runners Up: selected runners up will also have their essays published on the UKSC Blog.

To enter this competition, submit you answer to one of the following questions to editors@ukscblog.com by 5pm on Monday 27 February 2012 based on the guidelines below:

  1. What has been the most important Supreme Court case to date and why?
  2. Is the Supreme Court independent?


Competition guidelines and further information
1. Essays should be no less than 500 and no more than 1,000 words.
2. Essays should be written in an informal style, which is suitable for publication on a blog.
3. When submitting your entry, please provide your name, contact telephone number, the name of the university you attend and details of the course that you are studying (including the subject and what year of study you are in?
4. Entrants must be currently studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course at a university in the United Kingdom.
5. Entries must be original works and are limited to one per individual.
6. Entries must be submitted by email only.
7. The competition will close at 5pm on 27 February 2012.  Entries received after this date and time will not be considered.
