Biography

I have a background in political science, history, and sociology.  I have been studying military and service personnel issues for almost a decade.  My PhD research project will allow me to further my interest by exploring the life stories of ex service personnel who have experienced a traumatic injury, such as limb loss, hearing loss, or blindness.  Using life stories, I aim to explore the physical, emotional, social and institutional dimensions of life during recovery, rehabilitation, and onwards.  My research will draw on the fields of military studies, illness narratives, traumatic injury and embodiment and identity.  I am currently studying British Sign Language to facilitate understanding of loss of hearing due to trauma such as bomb blasts. My research website is https://lifeafterinjurysite.wordpress.com
