Biography

I joined UoP’s School of Education and Childhood Studies as Lecturer in Children and Family Studies in September 2016 and meanwhile, I am close to completion of my PhD at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. My academic backgrounds also include undergraduate studies in Early Childhood Education at Shanxi University, China and Aston University, UK; an MA in Child Studies from King’s College London; and a visiting research student to The University of Hong Kong. I am a researcher in early childhood education and care (ECEC) and have particular research interests in gender and men’s participation in ECEC. My PhD project investigates the gender dynamics of teacher-child interactions in ECEC settings in Edinburgh, Hong Kong, and Tianjin, China, using multiple qualitative methods such as observations in 17 classrooms cross-culturally, interviews with both male and female teachers, and pictorial conversations with children aged 3-6 years old.

I have teaching experiences across educational sectors in China and Britain, from the early years to higher education. I have been frequently invited by international universities and organizations as guest lecturers/speakers and/or advisory committee members, for example by The Education University of Hong Kong, the University of Glasgow, Leeds Trinity University, Nazarbayev University in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Think Equal – a global early years curriculum reform in Sri Lanka, Canada, etc. I am a Postgraduate Forum Convenor for the British Educational Research Association (BERA), a former executive committee member for British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE), and a core member/organizer of the Special Interest Group in Gender Balance for European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA).
