Current Research

My main research interests are in French relations with sub-Saharan Africa in the colonial and post-colonial periods. My book The End of Empire in French West Africa was published in 2002. My other areas of research interest include colonial memory in France and Francophone Africa and EU security policy in Africa. I recently published two edited volumes, Francophone Africa at 50 (with Alexander Keese: Manchester University Press) and Peace Operations in the Francophone World (with Bruno Charbonneau: Routledge), and a report on Franco-Senegalese relations 2000-2012 for the South African Institute of African Affairs. I am currently undertaking research on French military policy in Africa.
