Practical Relevance and Research Impact

Our members work on research projects in collaboration with industrial and academic partners to ensure practical relevance and impact. The primary focus is to build long-term partnerships with SMEs, large companies and public sectors in which knowledge transfer projects will form the set of core activities. Our strategy is to promote more effective engagement of academics with business to maximise the impact of research on the UK’s economic competitiveness, with emphasis on the following:

  • Growth and sustainability of the strategic partnership of the Centre with industry. This will result in the development of a strong culture of enterprise and knowledge transfer to advance understanding and delivering economic and social benefits across the UK and beyond;
  • Increase research income of the Centre from contract research and consultancy with industry, mainly SMEs;
  • Increase research funds from the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) and the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) grants;
  • Raise the research profile of the Centre internationally to provide innovation and excellence in research.

Our Funded Research Projects

Our members have been very successful in engaging with industry on several KTP, TSB and EU grants in key sectors including manufacturing, transportation, green computing, maritime operations and renewable energy.
