Centre for Studies in Literature
Preparing for Postgraduate Doctoral Study
This was a one-day workshop with an open invitation to students at all UK universities in their final year of undergraduate or Masters’ level study. The central aim of the workshop was to provide students with a chance to think about their next stage of postgraduate study and have the chance to ask questions to staff and current postgraduates. It was run by members of the Centre for Studies in Literature who also teach at postgraduate level at the University of Portsmouth. The sessions were also assisted by PhD and MA students from the University who gave talks covering their experience of postgraduate life.
The workshop was structured in parallel sessions concerning what to expect and how to apply for postgraduate study: one session focussing upon doctoral study and the other focussing upon Masters study. There was a further session concerning funding and bursary applications.
The feedback from the workshop was very positive, encouraging CSL to consider it as a yearly event.
