Biography

My academic background has been in the fields of English Literature and Archive Administration. I have previously worked as a professional archivist at Bath Record Office. My Masters thesis was on the treatment of Literary Archives in the UK, including theoretic perspectives on the treatment of literary papers as historic relics, as fitting into the archival records bracket or as culturally filtered postmodern traces. My current research interests are Victorian literature and visual culture, particularly the Freshwater circle centred on Julia Margaret Cameron and Tennyson, and the perception and appropriation of this circle in the twentieth century in both Modernist and Neo-Victorian contexts. I consider this through the medium of archives, particularly in terms of self-presentation in the archives of the Freshwater circle, the power and evocation of Victorian culture that they convey and the portrayal of such archives, real or imagined, in 20th century texts.

Teaching Responsibilities

I am currently teaching on the Literary History 2 unit for second year students in English Literature.

Research

My PhD research project is entitled ‘The Archives of Fantasy: The Interpretation and Legacy of the Freshwater Circle in the Works of Post-Victorian Writers’.
