Katie Ilincariu is Europe and South America sales manager for Fosse Liquitrol – a company which provides spill control systems to industries such as aerospace and engineering. She decided to embark on the MBA at the University of Portsmouth Business School to further develop her knowledge and understanding of business and established business practices.

The MBA is a key to unlocking the doors to senior and executive level management roles. The pace of the course allowed me to carry out a full-time international sales role at the same time as studying.

Paul Vine, a firefighter from Southampton, had often thought about pursuing a postgraduate degree.

I have always wanted to complete an MBA. I’ve seen others within the organisation complete the course and had heard how rewarding, interesting and appropriate it was. The fire service is going through a period of huge rapid change – as is most of the public sector – and all the areas of the course, including finance, marketing and operations, are playing an important role as the public sector increasingly has to behave like a business. My advice to anyone thinking about doing an MBA is do it.

Monitor Facilities & Features

Leadership Residential

The leadership and coaching development residential launches the programme’s focus on strengthening your capabilities as a leader and manager. This two-day conference introduces you to the MBA coaching scheme, assesses your strengths and opportunities as a leader, and sets the stage for your executive coaching and leadership development planning.

Executive coaching

The MBA executive coaching scheme supports your growth and transformation as a leader. Individual conversations with a trained coach are a good way to reflect on your learning and integrate MBA knowledge and skills into your leadership behaviours. Up to six coaching sessions are offered each academic year.

Work-based learning project

A work-based learning project uses your management knowledge and skills to complete a business project, exploring a strategic challenge to create value for your employer or another client organisation. Participants define the project aim, scope and objectives, then plan and implement the project, making recommendations based on the findings.

Applied Learning Portfolio

An Applied Learning Portfolio encourages and supports critical reflection on your learning throughout the course, and it demonstrates how you are applying new knowledge and behaviours in a work-based context. Although this is relevant for all course participants, it is particularly valuable for those completing the Level 7 Senior Leaders’ degree apprenticeship pathway who are required to complete the CMI assessment at the end of the course.

Budgeting for your studies

There may be extra costs arising from your studies which you will need to consider when planning your expenditure.

Some are common costs to all courses of study. These may include the cost of study texts, reference books, photocopying and computer supplies. Others relate to specific courses and may include field trips, materials and specialist equipment.

Other costs to consider

The MBA (Strategic Leadership) degree apprenticeship route prepares participants for CMI’s professional qualification for Senior Leaders, one requirement of which is to complete an End-Point Assessment. This is conducted by an independent assessor and will incur a separate fee, paid by the employer, which is not included in the discounted course fee of £9,000 for academic session 2017-2018.  For further information, please contact our Student Recruitment Team.

All MBA students can expect to incur some additional expenses common to all course of academic study. These may include the costs of study texts, reference books, learning materials, photocopying, field trips and specialist equipment.
