This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to develop and launch new products and services, manage small enterprises, identify and generate new ideas and opportunities in order to create an environment that will facilitate innovation.

A second class honours degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications.
English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in all individual components, or equivalent.- Fees
UK/EU/Channel Islands and Isle of Man full-time students: £6,000, part-time students: £3,000 in year 1 and £3,000 plus inflation in year 2.
International full-time students: £11,000
International part-time students: £5,500 p/a*

Structure & Teaching
This course will provide a contemporary understanding of innovation management and entrepreneurship concepts, theories, models and analytical frameworks, and their application in the development of appropriate business policies and strategies through two key aspects:
1. The Management of Innovation
This aspect of the course aims to provide an understanding of:
- Key innovation and entrepreneurship management concepts and principles. In particular, how to manage product innovation and development at operational and strategic levels, and enhancing competitiveness through innovation
- The processes involved in the development of new products and services, including the management of resources and key activities
- Key internal and external factors influencing and facilitating innovation within organisations. Markets and customers, in the context of targeting products at markets and the influence of market changes on organisations
2. Entrepreneurship
This aspect of the course will provide insights into:
- Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs in small to medium-sized enterprises and larger organisations, and the use of key tools in the development of new ventures
- The management and development of new enterprises from both a theoretical and practical perspective (with particular focus on small enterprises)
- Financing business operations, with a particular focus on financial assessments within new product development and financing new business start-ups

Teaching and Assessment
The course uses both theory and practice-oriented teaching, based on case studies and real-world examples. Teaching and learning is through weekly half-day sessions, dependent on whether you are taking the course full or part-time. Within these you will attend and participate in lectures, seminars and workshops.
How are you assessed?
For each unit you will be assessed in a way that will deepen your knowledge of the subjects covered. This will involve you thinking and working in an original way to overcome genuine problems. You will also complete a 15,000 word dissertation which you will be encouraged to relate to your workplace or a desired venture.

Support
We aim to provide you with as much support as possible. There are tutors available to support your studies via online tutorials, email and telephone conferencing. You will also be assigned a personal tutor who will offer support and guidance throughout your studies.

Modern, comfortable and a great learning environment, our library offers a wealth of information including 400,000 books, DVDs, maps and thousands of online ejournals and newspapers. Many electronic resources are available anywhere, 24/7 and our friendly staff are always on hand to help.

Career prospects
We aim to enhance your career prospects and prepare you for roles in innovation management, entrepreneurship, and the management of small enterprises. You will develop your understanding of the value and contribution innovation can make to a variety of consumer, business, national and international markets and across industry sectors. In particular, it provides expertise in this field, qualifying you for a wide range of management careers in the private and public sector.
On completion, you might expect to gain senior management roles in a range of functions including marketing, new product development, innovation, research and development, technology, engineering, project management, administration and the arts. More generally, it may be of interest to those wishing to work in business, manufacturing, healthcare and knowledge management. It is also ideally suited to you if you are working or looking to develop a career in a small business or even consultancy-based roles.
Career planning
One of the benefits of studying at Portsmouth is the support that we provide to our Master's and Research Degrees students in career planning. Our careers and recruitment service – Purple Door – can assist you in career research and finding employment opportunities. Help is also available if you wish to find a part-time job while studying your degree. We offer our postgraduate students and alumni one-to-one appointments with a careers adviser, or an online service for those not able to travel back to the University. Our alumni can call on our career services for five years after graduation.
