This Foundation Degree is fully taught and assessed within the Royal Navy training scheme.

There is a strong emphasis on key skills development therefore these opportunities are made available in each unit and a key skills element will always be part of the assessment schedule. In addition, there are supplementary units where students may focus on particular key skills development. Most units contain elements that encourage the development of study skills. Students spend significant amounts of time group working and team building, and there are individual formal assessment.

The Foundation Degree offers strong classroom based activities where theoretical concepts are covered together with excellent work-based learning opportunities through fully equipped workshops, laboratories, use of in-service engineering assets and high fidelity simulation.

Work-based learning elements are included in most units since students will typically use current fleet equipment as well as simulators as part of their normal learning development.
