This is a two year full-time programme or three years part time and is suited to students who wish to pursue a career connected with the professional care and management of a wide range of animals. A two year part-time option is also available with an emphasis on behavioural science.

The programme has a firm science foundation including biological science, biochemistry, and vertebrate anatomy & physiology which allows students to progress onto the final year of our (Hons) degree programme, if they so choose. Key Skills in communication, ITC and problem solving are also included to prepare students for middle managerial positions in the various animal industries.

The Foundation Degree programme was developed in consultation with employers, all of whom stressed the need for a strong science foundation for their employees - who may be doing field work one day and lab work the next - as well as managing a variety of animals. Along with the strong science foundation in year one, students will participate in practical, industry related tasks.
