The programme qualifies successful students to teach children aged 5-11 in junior and infant schools. It is a full-time course in which 60% of the time is spent in schools and 40% in local professional training centres.
There is an opportunity to observe good teachers at work and gradually develop teaching skills. Each student receives high quality mentoring, together with support from the SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) team to assist development into a competent and confident newly qualified teacher.
Students are expected to produce written assignments that meet the appropriate degree level criteria.
