The aim of the PgC/PgD/MSc in Pharmacovigilance is to equip students with the skills and competencies they require to fulfil pharmacovigilance roles in advanced and complex settings. It is a collaborative programme developed jointly between the University of Portsmouth and the Drug Safety Research Unit (DSRU) at Southampton which is one of the leading and most experienced providers of Pharmacovigilance education and training in Europe.
The programme is designed for personnel working in drug safety or pharmacovigilance departments in academia, regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical companies or independent research units, who wish to study part-time for a recognised academic qualification. It may also be suitable for independent medical writers, and those working in the pharmaceutical industry in clinical research, medical affairs, medical information or regulatory affairs.
The course provides varied delivery with the potential to develop a managed learning environment including (e.g. e-learning, portfolio creation, learning conferences) that is flexible (units can be studied in any order within a Stage). Three core units (Pharmacovigilance; Pharmacoepidemiology; and Adverse Drug Reactions) are mandatory at PgC, with the fourth being an option relevant to your chosen specialist area at PgC.. All four additional units are selected from the choice of nine options at PgD according to your chosen specialist areas of interest.
