Course overview
“The digital revolution has not just arrived, it has well and truly settled in.” (Connolly, 2008)
Since the development of the world wide web, the way people and organisations bring their products to market has changed – almost beyond recognition. In the not too distant past, the town square was where farmers and traders sold their produce and wares on a weekly, if not daily basis and the High Street was teaming with shops covering everyone’s basic needs. The new technologies of today allow marketers to engage with a vast number of people but these new connections also bring organisations and products “face-to-face” with competitors from all over the globe. As Professor Cor Molenaar of Erasmus University Rotterdam so succinctly stated “A paradigm shift has occurred which will forever change the way marketers and marketing managers work.”
As these technologies continue to develop in terms of availability and functionality, even greater opportunities will arise for those individuals who are able to combine traditional marketing insight with a true understanding of digital technology, capturing these benefits and articulating them at both an academic and vocational level. These individuals will be at the forefront of the on-going “digital revolution”.
If you have a good undergraduate degree in business, technology, computing, design, psychology or other relevant subject, this course will allow you to build on your previous degree providing you with knowledge, technical skills and practical experience of digital media and marketing concepts. A laptop with all the necessary software you require for your studies is provided and which is yours to keep on successful completion of the course.
Graduates of this programme have gone on to successful careers in web marketing, social media, e-commerce and mobile advertising in all types of businesses around the world. In addition, this programme provides a solid basis for entrepreneurial-minded students who wish to start their own digitally-based businesses.
