MA International Business and English
Mauricio Valdez De la Vega - MA International Business and English
'It has been nearly one year now since I came to Portsmouth; I can say that it has been an experience that I will never forget. I chose the course of MA International Business and English to learn about business in an international context, but I can affirm that it is an experience that goes beyond that.
The course is very helpful in learning how to do business with different cultures and countries; I never imagined how important it is to understand different cultures in order to have success whilst doing business. I have met people from many parts of the world, which makes you learn even more about cultural differences.
The MA is suitable not just for someone with a marketing background like me, but also for finance, management, accounting, economics etc… everything related with business. I found units such as Business Economics and Financial Management very important as they were both useful and interesting.
This course is suitable if you wish to work for a multinational enterprise, if you want to work in the UK or simply because in the business world nowadays you have to do business with people from different places.
Portsmouth Business School offers you many resources such as: access to international databases, help in case you are struggling with the English language to do your coursework and even a personal tutor for any queries through the course.
At the end of the day, I think that the best part of MA International Business is that within the course you relate with people from different parts of the world; this helps you to learn by experience, not just from the words of the teacher.'
Krystyna Borycz - MA International Business and English
I chose International Business and English due to the variety of modules that were taught which would give me a good start in my career.
I had high hopes connected with the course, and I felt blessed and assured with my decision even more when I was awarded a Portsmouth Business School Scholarship.
I have lived and worked in the UK for six years having been employed mainly in the retail industry, which has given me plenty of opportunities to connect with international teams. But I needed that extra little something to help me stand out from the crowd, and I thought this course would be the answer.
I have always been a hard-working and motivated student winning the ‘Minister of Finance award in my college and then the ‘Dean’s Scholarship’ at my university, so I was not daunted by the extra work required.
The course met my high expectations, and I liked every aspect, from the seminars and lectures to studying in the library. The library was spacious and well-equipped with all the facilities and books I needed, so it was perfect atmosphere to knuckle down and focus. This space to study helped a lot as the teaching system here is very different from the Polish one, which I found challenging at first, but it got easier as my course went on.
One year goes really quickly - I wish the course had been for two years. I will miss the interesting and exciting concepts and theories I learnt in all course units but particularly during Financial Management, Economics, and Strategic Management modules that I have found most mind-engaging. The course has given me great opportunities for my future and I hope to gain an internship very soon.
