Phoebe Allman - MSc Business and Management

'I have found the course at University of Portsmouth both interesting and extremely helpful for my future career. I came with a Fine Art degree looking to expand both my knowledge and career opportunities.

In the first semester we covered all the basics from Human Resources through Marketing and Operations to Finance. This first semester gives everyone a good grounding in the subject, even if coming from a completely different discipline.

Semester two builds on this knowledge, concentrating on more strategic issues and challenges in the business world, with case studies playing an important role in understanding real situations. There has been a good mix of lecture and seminar-based teaching with enthusiastic tutors on-hand to provide further help where needed.

In my year there is a mix of people from many countries around the globe, all coming from different subject backgrounds; this creates a mixture of ideas and perspectives which makes discussions particularly interesting, especially the topic of globalisation.

The Business School itself is a very comfortable building with open spaces, comfy seating and a good atmosphere. So far my experience has been very positive. I have learnt a great deal over the past year and have a much greater awareness of business and the ways in which it interacts with the rest of our environment.

I am increasing my career opportunities, opening up a path into management which can be followed into any sector.'
