MSc Finance
Student profile
Farhash Wafa Salvador – MSc Finance
Nationality: Malaysian.
Current position: Currently backpacking round Europe. Is an associate of the Institute of Securities & Investments UK and in the process of writing a PhD proposal for the University of Portsmouth.
'After I graduated I received many job offers, including offers from Price Water House Coopers, investment banks, even Shell, but the best offer yet is as a Political Assistant to the former Deputy Prime Minister and Ex Minister of Finance Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim, who is fighting for reform agendas in Malaysia.
'I'm currently facing a transition in my life journey, so I’m taking this opportunity to see the world before I decide on a career path. My postgraduate qualification has given me the freedom to do so, and the confidence and skills needed to excel in any chosen career path I will undertake in the near future. I'm not worried about getting a job; the biggest problem I'm facing is which job offer should I take?'

Catherine Wan – MSc Finance
Current position: Currently working for Grant Thornton in Southampton and training as an ACA qualified accountant.
'I learnt and developed a lot of new skills during my MSc, for example, team working, communication, organisational, analytical, and problem solving skills. All of these skills were required in my chosen career. I felt that I was given more opportunities to be interviewed by various companies because I had the MSc Finance qualification.'

Sonia Brandon – MSc Finance
Current position: Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.
'After I graduated from the MSc Finance I received many job offers including one from Chase Bank at Bournemouth. I feel that would not have been offered if I had not had the MSc Finance, as it gave me the ability to discuss financial theories with confidence.
'After a number of years in industry and becoming ACCA qualified, I decided that I wanted to become a lecturer, because I loved doing the MSc Finance taught course and especially the dissertation. The dissertation gave me confidence in my research ability. I became a lecturer at Portsmouth in 2004 and in 2006 I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. I feel that without the MSc Finance I would never have had the opportunity to lecture in a subject I love.
'I would recommend the Master's in Finance to anyone who is considering a career in finance, either lecturing or in industry.'

Ramesh Manouchehri Ardakani – MSc Finance
Nationality: Dutch.
Current Position: Goldfish, as a Regulatory Reporting Controller (Associate).
'I feel that my Master's qualification has made me more attractive to employers, hence I have become more competitive in the market.'
