MSc Sports Performance

PE was always my favourite and best subject in school so naturally the path to follow was in studying sport and exercise. I completed a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science after leaving school which made me interested to study further.

I had heard Portsmouth was an up and coming university so I paid a visit on one of the open days. I was really impressed with the look of the city, University and the Sports Science department. That was three years ago and since then, the department has further improved with the opening of the new Spinnaker Building, well worth a visit!

The social life is great. Portsmouth is a city with a lot going on with plenty of things to see and do. I am a member of the University football club and I thoroughly recommend joining one of the many sports teams the University has to offer.

I really enjoy the lab sessions we have. I feel they provide us with practice in real life situations dealing with athletes. If an aspect is hard to grasp it often becomes clearer when it’s applied in a practical setting.

After my degree I am hoping to go on to become an accredited strength and conditioning coach. This combined with the knowledge gained from the Master's degree will hopefully help to enable me to pursue a career in the field of sports science.

To anyone thinking of coming to Portsmouth my advice would be to visit the University on one of the open days. This gives you the chance to meet the lecturers, have a look around the department and view the facilities. You can also have the chance to ask any queries or questions you may have about the course or University itself. As well as this you also get a good look at the city as a whole and the surrounding area.
