What happens after we receive your application
MBA (full time) applicants are not always subject to interview.
- If your application demonstrates clearly your work experience and your qualifications you will be asked if you wish to conduct an interview or complete two essay style questions
- If your application doesn’t demonstrate clearly your work experience or qualifications you will be asked to conduct an interview.
- If you are attending a recruitment event, the university representative involved will be able to conduct the interview prior to you submitting an application.
The Interview
Interviews may be conducted in person on campus so that you can have a look around and meet the MBA team and students. Interviews of MBA candidates based overseas are usually by telephone and provide candidates with an opportunity to ask questions about tuition, the course structure, employability and the residentials.
Date and Time for the Interview for Overseas Applicants
Applicants based overseas will be contacted by the MBA Course Team to book a time and date when one of the course team can speak with them by telephone. This pre-interview conversation attempts to confirm the applicant’s contact details and to answer any initial questions they may have. The Interview itself will last up to 40 minutes. During this, you will be asked about:
- Your academic background
- Your work experience
- Achievements so far that you are most proud of
- Where you see yourself being in three years time
- Your English language ability
After an Offer is Made
Once an applicant has an offer to study on the Portsmouth MBA Programme, they will be asked to supply certain documents (such as a copy of their passport, IELTS/TOEFL/PTE test result, evidence of cleared funds in the bank for the deposit and other elements required by the UK Border Agency).
When this evidence is provided, the University will be in a position to send an offer letter bearing a CAS Number. It is this number that the applicant needs to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
When an unconditional offer is accepted, the applicant will receive a series of communications from the Portsmouth Business School Postgraduate Centre including joining instructions. Once you have applied and been accepted onto the programme, if you are self-funding you can apply to be considered for an MBA Scholarship.
