Course overview

GTTR Code - IX99

Teaching computer science combines a rewarding career with a necessary subject for 21st-century pupils. This course aims to equip you with the skills to make the teaching of it as interesting, fun and engaging as possible.

The PGCE at Portsmouth is a one-year course, primarily building your professional competence as a teacher of computer science. You will also focus on your understanding of educational issues such as teaching and learning, classroom interaction, the school curriculum and the school and society.

As well as becoming a competent classroom practitioner, you will need to be able to make informed decisions and to recognise the need for further personal and professional development, particularly where your subject knowledge is concerned.

At the end of this course you will receive a PGCE as well as the award of QTS.

There is also an option to study on this course at Masters level and accumulate 60 masters level credits, which can then be put towards a full Masters qualification when you are teaching.
