Jake Howarth-Brown is currently in the second year of his American Studies degree. He says the best thing about the course has been the range of options and the friendly atmosphere - both major factors in his choice of university.

He said: 'I enjoyed US history at college and saw that at Portsmouth I could style my learning around what I am interested in due to the large choice of options.' Undecided on the career path he plans to take, American Studies appealed to Jake because it allowed him to study a variety of disciplines, thereby keeping his career options open.

Jake is especially looking forward to his placement at a university in the USA, and plans to travel for three months at the end of the semester.
