BA (Hons) Hospitality Management with Tourism
Student profiles
Isobel Marshall – BA (Hons) Hospitality Management
'The course has been challenging, but definitely enjoyable. I have developed a broad range of knowledge in a variety of topics, which will help me when I leave university and find a job.
I also learnt a lot during my year on placement working in the industry. All the lecturers are accessible; you can email or telephone and they are always able to point you in the right direction.
The facilities here are really great too. The Library range is extensive. It holds loads of books relevant to my course and all the lecture theatres are modern and well equipped.'

Liz Austin – BA (Hons) Hospitality Management with Tourism
'Throughout my life I have grown up around tourism and the service industry in the Caribbean, so studying a Hospitality Management and Tourism course just seems like the natural thing to do.
I would describe myself as a people person who finds it easy to communicate with almost anyone and gets great satisfaction at making others happy. If you're anything like me, then this is the course for you. Not only have I met life-long friends but I've also learned things along the way which I believe will help me greatly in my future career.
The course is a sandwich course so in year three everyone went to various different places around the world. I went back to my roots in the Cayman Islands and worked in a five-star luxury hotel known as The Ritz-Carlton. The experience was not what I expected, but at the same time it was fantastic! My knowledge of the industry grew throughout the year and the Island holds many adventures of its own and memories outside of work hours.
Portsmouth Business School has helped my throughout my course and will continue to do so in this last stretch before final exams in June. Everyone has been very helpful and I will be sad to leave such a friendly environment.'

Alex Pope – BA (Hons) Hospitality Management
Alex chose to move to Portsmouth from his hometown of Worcester in the Midlands to continue his love of sailing. Portsmouth was recommended by a friend as a great city to live and study in, and after an informal interview with the Department, he chose to study the BA (Hons) Hospitality Management.
'I have been working in kitchens and bars since I was sixteen, and cooking from a much younger age, so the course really appealed to me. I like putting the theory we learn in the classroom into practice in the excellent facilities at Highbury College.'
Alex is still in his first year, but is already planning his year placement. He would like to work in one of the top restaurants in either California or Sydney.
