Student profile
Martin Stock – BA (Hons) Illustration
'I chose to take illustration as the course had great reviews, its content suited me and it also allowed me to continue working whilst studying. I currently work in a local printing firm designing promotional literature, such as calendars and business cards as well as the magazine Citylife.
My lecturers have been a great source of inspiration and moral support throughout. The facilities are great. We have access to all sorts of specialist equipment, such as the printing room with screen printing, and so on. I really enjoy the creative environment. Having the input from other students helps no end.'

Lisa Hopkins – BA (Hons) Illustration
Although Portsmouth was close to Lisa's home on the Isle of Wight, she chose to study here because, as she says, 'it is very well set up for student life - with both great sports and social events, and of course good educational facilities.
It is also a great city to live in and is very student friendly. The staff are extremely supportive and inspirational; they really know their stuff and encourage you to believe in yourself and your work.
The projects are always exciting and very different every time. I would recommend this course to anyone who is a creative person. I definitely chose the right course.'
After Lisa graduates she is hoping to design children's books: 'I may have to move to London to give myself the best possible chance of finding work'.
Rosie Hogg – BA (Hons) Illustration
'I decided to come to Portsmouth because it gave me the opportunity to live in a new city and experience university life from the unique perspective that Portsmouth offers.
I've really enjoyed my course - with flexible timetable and regular tutorials, I've learned so much as well as meeting some really great people. The staff have been very friendly and supportive throughout.
The University of Portsmouth has much to offer to students and with all the different clubs and societies you're really spoilt for choice. Its been three of the best years of my life!'
