BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy

'Fitness to practice' is a concept that is broad in remit and that expresses the concerns of the relevant Professional Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) concerned with monitoring professional registration and regulation of qualified professionals. Fitness to practice incorporates both the ability to complete the workplace (clinical) component of your chosen profession and your eligibility to register as such on completion of the course. FTP may arise as an issue prior to admission to your chosen course (for example, in relation to concerns about your ability to successfully complete aspects of the course) or it may arise during your training (for example, as a result of changes to your health or related issues which impact on your ability to register).

Applicants are encouraged to provide the University with full details of all relevant information which may affect their application or their fitness to practice including details of any disabilities or criminal convictions. If applicants do not provide such information, the University will not be responsible for losses arising from this information being withheld.

Applicants are further advised that University staff may be obliged to report information which may, for example, have a bearing on an applicant’s fitness to practice, either to a professional body or to third party agencies such as the Local Authority where, for example, it appears from information provided that the applicant or another person may be at risk. Applicants may not be informed when any such disclosures are made. Any disclosures made will comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.
