'I really enjoy my course. The staff here have an open-door policy, which means that if they are not lecturing, they are very happy to help with questions or concerns both in academic and general life.
The Department runs the Maths Café where students can drop in (no matter what course they are studying) for help with any mathematical based question.
I am also a member of the horse-riding team, which is great fun. I have made friends with people from different courses through joining the club; it has given me a real sense of belonging.'

'I had always enjoyed maths and chose to study at Portsmouth after my previous college told me that Portsmouth had one of the best mathematics departments in the country.
The best thing about the course is the wide range of topics that can be combined with pure maths, such as statistics, economics and computing. In my opinion, the lecturers all offer brilliant support and the courses are well-structured. For these reasons, I would definitely recommend the course to potential students.
When I complete my degree, I hope to go into teaching or financial work.'
