BSc (Hons) Risk and Security Management

Student profile

Simon Zammit – BSc (Hons) Risk and Security Management

What made you decide to come to University of Portsmouth to study?

'I was looking for a degree that would expand my knowledge in the Security Management field and after doing quite a bit of research I narrowed my choice down to three UK universities. I knew the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies had a good reputation and was used to dealing with accreditation of prior military training. This combined with my living in close proximity to the City of Portsmouth, made the decision fairly easy, as I knew that I would if necessary be able to talk to a tutor face to face.'

How have you found your course?

'Now that I am due to graduate, I can say that I have found the course to be extremely good, while there were initial frustrations with individual modules, the faculty listened to student concerns and amended the content accordingly. The relevancy of units to the security management field has increased as the course has developed.'

How have you found life at the University?

'As a distance learning student, I have not had much experience of life on campus, however, the ICJS study schools have given me a taste of the student life. The support provided by the faculty and support staff has been outstanding. When ever I have experienced any kind of problem, they have gone out of their way to help me.'
