Course overview

Do you have the enthusiasm, determination and drive to complete a degree, but lack the entry requirements? If so, our Engineering and Technology programme is for you. If you are committed to a career in technology at graduate level, this foundation year could be your first important step to fulfilling your potential.

At the end of the first year successful students will be able to automatically transfer onto the first year of a technology degree programme in the School of Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying or the School of Computing.

To study the practical products in everyday use we need technology. Maths and science are the basic tools which are complemented by other subjects, enabling you to build a course that prepares you for your degree.

The course focuses on skills and knowledge required for creating and making, whether it’s the buildings and services in our modern environment, everyday household items or the computerised systems and gadgets that enhance our working lives. There’s no doubt that civil, mechanical and electronic engineers are the people that make a physical difference to the world we live in and there is a worldwide demand for graduates in these disciplines.

Career focused

The entrance criteria of this degree have been designed to comply with the requirements of the major engineering and technology-based graduate programmes. Competent students can have the opportunity to apply their skills to real-life practical problems as part of the department’s partnership scheme with charities, local and global organisations. Please view the 'Career prospects' section for further details.
