FdA Leadership and Management

Keeley Ormsby

Keeley is midway through a foundation degree in Leadership and Management. She is Practice Manager at Heyward Road Surgery in Portsmouth.

I was at College for a year after leaving school and then went straight into the world of work, spending six years working for the Portsmouth Primary Care Trust. I really wanted to return to academia without jeopardizing my career path – so to find that I could study for a foundation degree and work full-time was ideal.

It was quite daunting to start studying again but the study-skills element of the course is extremely helpful and my tutor has been hugely supportive.

About a year ago I got my current job at Heyward Road Surgery, where I am wholly responsible for the day-to-day running of the Practice. I’m in charge of the staff, the building, the finance and driving forward business improvements to ensure the Practice is providing the highest standard patient care.

Ultimately I wanted to get this qualification to increase my confidence and achieve something that will boost my personal development. It has already proved to be invaluable to my role at work and I’m confident that once I’ve completed the foundation degree I will continue my studies and enrol on to the final year of an honours degree – enhancing my CV even more.
