Student profile
Jon Marsden – FdA Police Studies
What made you decide to come to University of Portsmouth to study?
'A number of colleagues had used Portsmouth previously and were part of the original pilot of my particular course. I had received good feedback about the University and decided to take the plunge. My personal view is that my course has not been watered down to suit an audience. I am noticing similar programmes that appear to demand less of the student, this is not the route I wished to take.'
How have you found your course?
'The course has been demanding due to work and family pressures. Due to distance, I have not been able to attend any sessions at Portsmouth but know that the support is at the end of a PC or phone should I require it. In my view you get out what you put in and I am pleased to be nearing the final hurdle!'
How have you found life at the University?
'Being a distance learner can be a difficult and lonely place, however, Portsmouth have been there when needed. Different support services can assist with queries and the tutors will always be available for that invaluable pointer. Importantly I have met fellow students online through the university and this type of study network should not be under estimated.'
