MEng Electronic Engineering
MEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering
Matthew Alexander Haines
I chose to study at the University of Portsmouth because of its good reputation in the Electronics department. When I visited on the Open Day, I really liked the look and feel of the University.
I chose the MEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering course because all the theory behind it fascinates me. Electronics are part of our everyday lives and I like finding out how they work. After I graduate, I hopefully will be working with the company I have been working with during the summer breaks. They have kindly given me a scholarship too.
What I like about my course is the mix of hardware with software in the Digital Electronics subjects, so you get a good knowledge of both areas. We have had a couple of guest speakers come in and give a talk about how what we are learning at university will be used in the industry. This gives us a good insight into how the skills we learn will be put to use later on.
The facilities in the ECE department are very good. There is a lot of good equipment in the labs so that the work that we do is as accurate as possible.
I think Portsmouth itself is a good city. The best thing about it is the amount of venues for gigs, shows and other events to be staged. Outside of university, I have a range of hobbies from trying to play guitar to Jujitsu.
