- Entry
For two year, part-time direct entry progression, applicants require completion of levels four and five through a Foundation degree or equivalent.
For three year, part-time direct entry, applicants require completion of Certificate in Education for Post Compulsory Education or equivalent HE credits.

Structure & Teaching
Year one
If you have a Foundation degree or equivalent, you may go directly to year two. If not, you will study these units:
- Reflective Review: reflect on your personal learning development and locate your personal professional practice within the context of current national education and training polices.
- Introduction to Literature Enquiry: explore the selection and analysis of source material and how it is used to inform thinking and scholarship.
- Psychology in Education and Training: study the processes of applying psychological principles of learning in your professional practice.
Year two
- Developing and Extending Young Children’s Thinking for Learning
- Developing Professional Practice
- Education, Society and The Curriculum
- Global Perspectives on Education
- Promoting Early Learning (0-3)
- Research Methods and Dissertation Proposal
Year three
- Global Perspectives on Education: review the issues associated with changing and developing aspects of international influence on pedagogy, policy and practice.
- Dissertation: this is your opportunity to investigate an area of personal interest in the fields of education, training or administration. You will agree with your tutor the area you wish to investigate in your dissertation proposal. The focus of this unit is on the investigation and production of a small scale research project (10,000 words).
Teaching and Assessment
You will be taught in a variety of ways. Lectures will provide you with a basic grounding in a particular topic or issue; these will be supported by audio and visual materials. Seminar sessions will be used to explore issues in greater depth, discuss ideas and exchange views. Regular small group or one-to-one tutorials will be used to facilitate independent learning.
How are you assessed?
You will be required to complete essays, reports, presentations and a dissertation. We provide clear assessment criteria for all coursework assignments, which are always made known to you so that you can appreciate the criteria used to evaluate your work. All assessment is through coursework assignments.

Academic Skills Unit (ASK)
ASK will help you become a successful university student. Our workshops are designed to improve a number of essential academic skills from essay writing and understanding plagiarism to revision and exam techniques. This is a great way to enhance your academic performance and make a smooth transition into university study.
3rd Space
A social learning space for you to study or meet up with friends. Small and large groups, or individuals looking for a quiet space or discuss work can find a quiet area which can be screened off. Alternatively, grab a coffee or play a game of pool in between lectures.
University Library
Modern, comfortable and a great learning environment, our library offers a wealth of information including 400,000 books, DVDs, maps and thousands of online ejournals and newspapers. Many electronic resources are available anywhere, 24/7 and our friendly staff are always on hand to help.
