Graduate profile

I am a mature student who has recently completed the BA(Hons) in Education and Training Studies, I found the course as a whole a great opportunity to enhance my knowledge and add credibility and value to my role as a teacher. I am joint owner of my own training company and since completing this course I have found that opportunities for myself and my company have presented themselves that were not available to me before.

I enjoyed the course immensely, although it was challenging and not to be underestimated. I enjoyed the ease in which the course fitted into my schedule as working fulltime and having small children this was an important consideration. The teaching provided was well planned and delivered professionally, support was offered in various different ways which included guidance and feedback from the course tutors and the Learning and Development Tutors.

I enjoyed the majority of the units in particular the Coaching and Leadership unit and the Globilisation unit, these units were enjoyable for two main reasons, apart from being very interesting, what I learnt from these units I feel have made me a better teacher as I gained a greater understanding of how people learn, and the barriers to learning. The knowledge gained through these units also expanded my own knowledge and understanding of these topics. It was satisfying to be able to put what I have learnt into practice.

The most enjoyable part of the course and by far the most challenging was the dissertation. Because the dissertation is on a topic of the students choosing meant that I could choose a topic I was interested in and related to my work. I found this enjoyable because the research I did enabled me to learn many things that I did not know and confirmed many others that I did. I was supported throughout the dissertation process by my dissertation supervisor whose guidance and feedback was invaluable, she made time for me and was always an email away when needed.

The course once completed has given me an enormous sense of personal achievement, as someone who left school without any formal qualifications. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have taken on and completed this degree and for the support and guidance I received. I would highly recommend this course and the University of Portsmouth for the facilities and courses available and the quality of teaching provided.
