Logistics and transportation is about planning, implementing and controlling the efficient and effective flow of goods, services and related information across supply chains.

Taking this course will prepare you to tackle the complex logistical problems faced by many businesses. Management of such processes is crucial in meeting customer service goals and essential to a firm’s competitive strategy.

This course is for those who have completed two years of an HND, Foundation degree or degree in business, computing, science or engineering and would like to complete their honours degree in this area.

Light bulb Structure & Teaching

During this course, you will build a solid grounding in the different approaches to the subject, specifically focusing on the following areas:

  • planning and scheduling of people, products, services and equipment
  • supply chain management and reverse logistics
  • inventories and stock control
  • transportation, transhipment and vehicle route planning

You’ll also develop various management, modelling and decision-making techniques for logistics and transportation as well as advanced analytical and problem solving skills.

There is also the chance for you to tailor your studies through optional units in topics such as project management, ecommerce, investment analysis, international management to name a few.


Teaching and Assessment

You will be taught through a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory and project work, with theoretical content carefully underpinning the more practical elements of the course. There is also the added benefit of some lectures being provided via the internet so you can work at your own pace from any location.

We assess you in a several ways, but a large portion of the assessment is based on a major project at the end of the year. Here’s how we assess your work:

Access our modern computing laboratories equipped with a wide range of powerful hardware and software, including multimedia applications. After the necessary training, you will be able to use the computer algebra package MAPLE and the numerical methods and matrix algebra package MATLAB. Drop in any time and get one-to-one help with that tricky maths or stats problem. With handouts on key topics to take away and computer-aided learning packages, we can get the problem solved and help you improve your numeracy skills.

Not only in the traditional areas of manufacturing logistics, distribution and supply chain management, but also the postal and express delivery, the fire and rescue emergency operations and even the military and defence industry.
