The city of Portsmouth

The University is conveniently located right in the heart of the city yet only a few miles from the beach, making it a great place to come and study. Portsmouth itself is very flat, making it ideal for cycling - travelling around the city is very easy. The city is close to the A3, M27 and M3, with good road and rail links to other major cities, as well as numerous daily car and passenger ferries to the Isle of Wight, France and Spain. Portsmouth is also only 90 minutes to London by train and Southampton airport is also nearby, great for UK and European destinations.

Whether you choose to commute or live in the city, there is a lot to keep you busy and entertained while you study here. Portsmouth is home to great shops, bars, theatres and restaurants. The waterfront development at Gunwharf Quays offers a range of retail and leisure facilities including designer outlet shops, bars, restaurants, cinema, bowling, a comedy club and a hotel. Close by is the historic dockyard, home of HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior, reminders of Portsmouth’s great maritime and naval past. Historic Old Portsmouth, with its cobbled streets and ancient buildings, is a great place to walk, explore and watch the ferries and yachts as they cruise into the waters of the Solent.

Southsea, the southern part of Portsmouth, offers four miles of coastline enhanced by open spaces and gardens, making it ideal for cycling, running, walking and relaxing. Southsea Castle, the aquarium, skate park and fairground mean there is plenty here to keep all entertained. Southsea is also home to a varied mix of restaurants, bars and great shops.
