Professional Doctorate in Medical Imaging (DMedImg)

Place of Employment & Job Title:

Senior Lecturer/Research & Publications Lead, University of Portsmouth

What made you decide to come to the University of Portsmouth to study the Professional Doctorate?

At the time, the Professional Doctorate in Medical Imaging was a new course, taught on a cohort approach, offering insight into research methods and analysis, publication and dissemination etc.  through a dedicated programme of lectures.  I  felt this would be beneficial in terms of gaining transferrable skills or other aspects of my work, less isolating than a PhD degree, plus it gave the opportunity to meet other professionals from similar or related fields

How did you find the course?

Informative and professionally rewarding.

What was your project title?

The design, implementation, assesssment and effectiveness of a sole e-learning module to prepare non-medical practitioners to report nuclear medicine bone scans.

How do you think this course has helped you to develop your career in your profession?

Although it is 'early days', I have been given an opportunity to take on a new role of encouraging and raising the research profile within my immediate department and amongst colleagues both within the University and nationally. It has also led to the possible collaboration with colleagues from elsewhere in the pursuit of further research. As to the longer term, I shall wait to see what other opportunities may arise.

Through a more evidence-based method of practice and also a more reflective critical self appraisal of my practice.
