Tariff Point Ranges – Guidance for Applicants

Typical entry requirements for many of our courses are expressed using tariff point ranges.

A tariff point range is a guide to the normal minimum-maximum points in typical offers, e.g. 260-300. Individual offers will normally be made within the publicised tariff range, and for the most popular courses we expect to make offers at the upper end of the range.

Each application is considered separately on its own merits and the exact nature of offers can vary to match individual cases.

When deciding individual offer levels, the University not only considers previous and predicted academic achievements, but also other evidence of an applicant’s suitability for the course, including potential to succeed, enthusiasm and commitment. All the information provided on your UCAS application form will be taken into account. For this reason individual offers may vary from the published range and other offers made.

Selection criteria which can influence offer levels include:

  • Additional academic achievements
  • Personal statement
  • Reference
  • GCSE performance
  • Extra-curricular activity such as work-experience, qualifications (e.g. Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise), and cultural and social life
  • Performance at interview (if required)
  • Any relevant extenuating circumstances which are relevant to your application.
