When to apply (UCAS)

UCAS can start receiving applications for entry in 2013 from 1 September 2012. You are advised to apply as soon as you feel you have made the right choice of course and university, and you should try to ensure that your application reaches UCAS by the closing date of 15 January 2013. UCAS will send to us all applications received after the closing date, but we cannot guarantee that they will be given the same level of consideration or offer as those that arrive before the deadline.

You will make your application through the UCAS Apply service. It can be used either through school or college or independently. To use UCAS Apply, please register on their website and complete an application form. This form contains a range of information about you and your choices of university and course. You can make up to five choices of course and university.

You can apply for all five courses at one university or five different ones. If you wish, you can choose less than five - it is up to you what and where you want to study. UCAS uses codes to identify individual universities. Portsmouth's code is P80.

UCAS send the application information to us for consideration and, once we make a decision, we send details to UCAS. You will be able to view this decision online via the UCAS service called 'Track'. We will also contact you separately to let you know the outcome of your application to us.

Applicants who apply directly to the University using our online application form should also apply as soon as they are able.

Gap year/deferred entry

Taking a gap year gives students the opportunity to learn new skills, travel, earn some money and gain new experience. Some of the University's Schools and Departments are willing to consider applications for deferred entry. Please check with the relevant course contacts. If you apply for deferred entry in 2013 (for a 2014 start), you must still apply by the relevant UCAS application deadline, and meet the conditions of any offers by August 2013.
