Portsmouth Business School

Alex Brown
LLB Law

Alex Brown - LLB Law

I chose Portsmouth because I was impressed with the investment that's been put into the facilities in the Business School. It was clear that the School of Law was committed to improving the lives of its students.

I like the course because it is taught with emphasis on practical skills. I feel I have learnt more from applying the law to practical scenarios rather than a typical textbook essay.

The School recently invested in a new mock court room for the students to use, which gives students a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of a courtroom atmosphere.

Ugne Lazauskaite
BA (Hons) Human Resource Management

Ugne Lazauskate - BA (Hons) Human Resource Management

One of the most important parts of business is staff, so it's essential to know how to manage people effectively. I like that this course gives an overview of the entire business world and explains how it all works.

At Portsmouth, students have everything they need - fully equipped rooms, stylish buildings cosy cafes, an enormously big library and many opportunities in the Students' Union

I love compact and modern cities - Portsmouth is exactly that. Everything is close by, the nightlife is great with its variety of pubs and clubs, and the city is a paradise for shopping.

Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries

Jenna Smith
BA (Hons) Graphic Design

BA (Hons) Graphic Design - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

I initially attended Portsmouth to complete a foundation course, during which I saw the work going on in the degree course and was very impressed by its content and high standards.

The tutor to student ratio is very good and allows a lot of time for individual guidance and help

One of the biggest benefits of this course is that some units are set by external institutions. This involves being tutored by some very successful professionals and gives us a taste of what life as a graphic designer will be like after we graduate.

Adam Spokes
BSc (Hons) Entertainment Technology

Adam Spokes - BSc (Hons) Entertainment Technology

I chose this subject because I was interested in a broad variety of elements within the entertainment sector. With this course I am able to work my way through to find what I really enjoy.

Many courses specialise within the first semester, whereas entertainment technology allows you to work your way up to specialising in the third year

I'm looking forward to my placement as I believe that a year in the industry will spur me on to increase my efforts for my third year and hopefully get first-class honours!

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

James Dickety
BA (Hons) Criminology and Criminal Justice

James Dickety - BA (Hons) Criminology and Criminal Justice

I chose Portsmouth because the facilities are really good, the staff are friendly and most importantly, I liked the course.

The content of the course is constantly changing, which makes our learning current. There are elective police training units available which will save you time if you decide to go into the police force after graduation.

The criminology society organises trips to the crime museum, the Sherlock Holmes museum and a Jack the Ripper tour, as well as holding mock trials and having guest speakers, so there's lots to look forward to!

Stacey Aspindale
BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies

Stacey Aspindale - BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies

I fell in love with Portsmouth instantly, the seafront is lovely and the coach tour showed me great places to socialise and have fun - which I have had lots of!

This course covers a broad range of subjects such as education, society and child development. I like the fact that it isn't solely focused on education, we also study many sociological aspects of childhood which I have found very interesting.

We've had many guest speakers, particularly in the area of special educational needs and inclusion which was my favourite module on the course.

Faculty of Science

Brendan Maccaoilte
BSc (Hons) Sports Science

Bredan Maccaoilte - BSc (Hons) Sports Science

I have always had a keen interest in sport and loved that I could gain a degree whilst doing something I enjoy. I chose Portsmouth because I loved the city, the location of the campus and the great facilities.

The course has a wide range of topic areas, giving an insight into the scientific principles, theories and ideas underpinning sport. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and gain a new understanding of sport.

The facilities in the Spinnaker Building are excellent; all brand new, state-of-the-art technology which really facilitates understanding of the subjects studied.

Finbarr Bassuah
BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science

Finbarr Bassuati - BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science

I chose this subject because of my passion for studying science and my dream to contribute greatly to our healthcare system.

I decided to come to Portsmouth because of its exceptional location and more importantly, because it had a very good reputation nationally for my chosen course. The integrated clinical placement makes this course unique and the fact that this course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science is fantastic.

I love the fresh air, the beach and the fact that you can easily move around in Portsmouth, as most locations are within walking or cycling distance.

Faculty of Technology

Abz Mohammed
BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology

Abz Mohammed - BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology

The reason I chose the University of Portsmouth is because of its good reputation and pass rate

I knew this course was for me because it encompassed the two areas that interest me the most: IT and also how IT is used within businesses. The course offers a placement year which gives you the option to work full time in the industry and can help further your studies.

The best thing about living in Portsmouth is that everything you need is close by and there is always something to do, day or night.

Eimear Blunnie
BSc (Hons) Property Development

Eimear Blunnie - BSc (Hons) Property Development

I decided to study property development because it offered professional flexibility - I could choose to specialise after graduation, which meant that I could keep my options open.

This course is accedited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, a standard which is recognised and respected across the industry, so I knew I could have confidence in the quality of the course.

There are lots of unit choices throughout the course so you can follow your own interests and in the final year there is an option to go on a week-long field trip to a European country.
