How do I get to the University of Portsmouth?
By car
Public parking is available in the city centre near the Guildhall and at paying meters in the vicinity of the University campus. Alternatively you can park at Gunwharf Quays or the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (both a ten minute walk away). If you have booked onto Wednesday 11th July you will be sent a link to download a coupon for discounted parking at Gunwharf Quays (Not applicable on the Saturday Preview Days).
For the Saturday events guests can use University car parks that can be allocated on the map in the Preview Day brochure as well as the public car parks in the city centre.
Our confirmation pack, sent out one week before the event, includes a map and full directions for getting to the University by road, coach or train. AA signage will direct anyone driving into the city centre. Sat Nav users should enter PO1 2ER for the Student Centre, a central University building or PO1 3TA for Gunwharf Quays.
If you require disabled parking please call 023 9284 2748 in advance of the event and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
By coach/train
If you are coming by coach, then you will arrive at The Hard, Portsmouth Harbour (a ten minute walk from the University).
If you are coming by train, then you can get off at 'Portsmouth and Southsea' station, just a five minute walk from the main University buildings. Don't worry if you miss the stop - the train will terminate at Portsmouth Harbour, still only ten minutes walk away.
Signage
Signage and Student Assistants will direct you from the bus and train stations to the University campus.
Accommodation
If you need accommodation for your visit there are many hotels and guest houses situated in Portsmouth and Southsea, all within easy reach of the University quarter. For more information on accommodation, please visit Portsmouth's Visitor website.

What is the programme of the day?
Our Preview Days have a rolling programme allowing you to choose what you want to do and at what time. Please allow plenty of time to visit all of the tours and talks on our Preview Day so that you have a positive and informative experience at the University.
When you receive your information pack, it's a good idea to read through the brochure and plan your day so that you can do as much as possible.
There are a number of Registration and Information Points throughout the campus where you can drop off your registration coupon, pick up a brochure or speak to a member of staff.
These Registration and Information Points will be allocated on the map in your Preview Day brochure.
Our Preview Days allow you to experience the following:
- Visit the departments you are interested in, meet staff and attend a talk
- Take a coach or walking tour of the city and campus
- Visit some of our halls of residence
- Attend a talk given by our senior management introducing you to the University
- Visit Langstone Student Village
- Visit our Information Fair
- Visit the library and sports facilities
The Preview Days start at 9.30am and the last tours leave at 4pm.
You will be offered the opportunity to look at a number of our halls of residence and ask current students about their experiences of living in University accommodation.
Please note that not all of our first year students will receive a place in one of our halls of residence. We provide excellent support for those looking for housing in the private sector. Please visit our Student Housing talk for more information.

I can't make any of the Preview Day dates. Can I still visit the University?
Of course! If you receive an offer for a place on one of our courses, you will be invited to a Departmental Open Day.
However, if you would like to come down and look around before that, you can download a self guided walking tour brochure/podcast or come into the Information Centre and we will provide you with one. We will also be organising drop in sessions for visitors who couldn't attend a Preview Day. Theses will be smaller, informal events. Please check the Visit Us page on our website from November to see the dates of our drop in sessions.
