Biography

I graduated from Portsmouth University in 2013 with a first class BSc (Hons) in Forensic Psychology. My third year project won the Departmental ‘John Denis’ award for the best undergraduate Forensic Psychology dissertation and was published by the Manchester Metropolitan University Journal. This dissertation, entitled ‘Lie to me; investigating the strategic regulation of fine grain details in truth-tellers and liars’ focused on verbal cues to deception drawn from metacognitive theory.

Teaching Responsibilities

I have undertaken the Graduate Students' Professional Development (GPROF) mandatory training.

Research

I started my PhD in February 2014 under the supervisory team of Prof. Aldert Vrij, Prof. Lorraine Hope and Dr. Samantha Mann. My doctoral research explores a new memory-based method of cognitive lie detection. I currently also examine verbal content analysis tools (such as the Verifiability Approach) in addition to my PhD research. In the 2015 ‘Decepticon’ conference, held at Cambridge University, I was awarded first prize for my conference poster on applying the Verifiability Approach to Insurance Fraud Contexts. In October 2015, I started work as a Research Associate on a HIG funded project investigating memory-based lie detection under the supervision of Professor Vrij. The work from this project forms part of my PhD thesis.
