As an undergraduate I completed a year abroad at the London School of Economics with a heavy emphasis on evolutionary psychology which put me on track towards my PhD (2009) at the University of Texas at Austin (supervisor David Buss). My dissertation focused on hormonal influences on the psychology of disease avoidance and disgust. After my PhD I conducted research on behaviour change and hand washing at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and worked at the Center for Women's Mood Disorders at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I joined the University of Portsmouth in September of 2011 and am a member of the Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology group.
Currently I am unit coordinator for Exploring Psychology and design tutorials for first year students in psychology. I also coordinate the unit Introduction to Psychological Science for students studying psychology alongside another course. I give lectures for Issues in Clinical and Health Psychology, Key Ideas in Human and Animal Behaviour, The Psychology of Everyday Life and Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology.
My research focuses mostly on two broad themes: Hormonal influences on the behaviour of women and how humans adaptively avoid cues of contagion including how disgust is regulated.
