Biography

I was awarded my PhD in 2000 after which I was employed as a Research Fellow on an ESRC grant examining contextual factors surrounding recovered / false memories.  I joined the Department as a Lecturer in 2001 and I currently hold the post of Reader in Applied Cognitive Psychology.  I have published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the topic of remembering, mainly focusing on memory errors.

Teaching Responsibilities

I coordinate the core Level 5 unit entitled Biological and Cognitive Psychology. I teach on a number of other core units, including: Key Ideas and Animal and Human Psychology (Level 4); Introduction to Forensic Psychology (Level 4); Forensic Psychology (Level 6) and The Psychology of Investigations (Level 6 & MSc). I am a personal tutor for Level 4 and 5 students, and personal and project tutor for Level 6 and Masters students.

Research

I am a member of the International Centre for Research in Forensic Psychology (ICRFP) within the Department of Psychology. My research focuses on the inherently context-dependent nature of memory and remembering.  I have published work using a variety of paradigms to investigate ‘false memories’ (or memory errors) for childhood events and terrorist attacks (and word lists!).
