Biography

I joined the Centre for Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology in October 2014. I graduated in biology and conducted my PhD in behavioural biology in France. I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Zoology, University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, from 2005 to 2014. I am currently funded by the EU 7th framework and received a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (IEF) for the 2-year project ‘Macacognitum’ (2014-2016).

Research

My research interests are the evolutionary dynamics of non-human primate behaviour and intelligence. I mainly investigate physical and social cognition in non-human primates using quite neglected but phylogenetic relevant species as models. I conduct studies both in the field and in captivity.

Before joining the Centre my major research interests focused on spatial cognition and foraging strategies but also influence of aging on learning abilities in mouse lemurs. Mouse lemurs are the world’s smallest non-human primate and are used to model ancestral primates, which is of great importance for understanding the ancestral state and the evolution of cognitive traits in our closest relatives. I conducted studies in the field in Madagascar and in captivity at the Institute of Zoology, University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany.

In the project ‘Macacognitum’, I will investigate the variation in cognition between closely related monkey species and examine the differential influence of social style on cognitive skills. I conduct observations and cognitive experiments at the Owl and Monkey Haven on the Isle of Wight.
