Our Graduates

  • Helena Drummond
    Helena Drummond
    Studied: BSc (Hons) Sports Science
Current job: Neurological Physiotherapist, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

After graduating from the University with a degree in Sports Science, Helena secured a position within the Health and Care profession as a Neurological Physiotherapist, using her knowledge from her degree to assist in her current role.

My Sports Science BSc provided a great knowledge base of health and the principles of exercise. The Physiotherapy MSc built on this knowledge, adding in- depth anatomy and physiology as well as helping me to take my communication skills to masters level. I am able to apply the principles of health from my undergraduate degree to those with disease or injury. I frequently use the knowledge from my BSc to educate and inform my patients.

  • Will Abbott
    Will Abbott
Studied: BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science
Current job: Strength and Conditioning Coach, Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club

Will's degree gave him the motivation to seek a career in providing sports science support to elite athletes and the skills to succeed in the working world after graduating from the University.

The BSc Sport and Exercise Science degree sparked my initial interest for a career in high performance sport. The taught material, facilities, and lecturers at the University of Portsmouth are second to none. In addition, the course provides numerous opportunities to gain applied experience alongside the degree, which is arguably as important as your qualification! All of this together gives you the best chance to succeed with your goals, whether they are sport related or otherwise.

  • David Ashton-Davies
    David Ashton-Davies
    Studied: BSc (Hons) Sports Science
Current job: Coordinator, International Olympic Committee International Relations Service

David gained much more than a degree during his studies at the University, enabling him to use his experiences and confidence to follow his desired career path.

Studying at University of Portsmouth gave me the confidence and foundations to pursue a career in Sport. The excellent teaching and guidance I received has given me core skills that I use today in my work and everyday life. I forged many friendships through the course and with the Athletic Union, and it is this strong community that I remember most.

  • Brendan Maccaoilte
    Brendan Maccaoilte
Studied: BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science
Current job: Pharmaceutical representative, Bayer Plc

Brendan benefitted from the support offered by the department and used the skills and knowledge he learned during his course to excel in his current role within the pharmaceutical industry.

The knowledge and skills that I gained from my time at the University of Portsmouth have proved invaluable in the career path I have taken. Working in pharmaceutical sales requires an in depth knowledge of physiology and presentation skills, both of which I had great exposure to on my course.

I cannot thank the Department of Sport and Exercise Science enough, I would definitely not be where I am today had it not been for the guidance, support and patience that they offered me whilst studying for my degree.
